What is an intake?  Basically it is a collection of parts working together to provide air to the engine allowing it to function properly.  You see, your engine is an internal combustion engine and it needs both fuel and air to operate.  The intake system not only provides a way for the necessary air to get to your engine, but it also filters out the contaminants along the way.  If your engine got no air, it would not work.  If your engine got nasty, dirty air it will start to gum up and eventually quit working.

The Airaid Intake system can also be called the complete power package.  It offers you the ability to add more torque at the same time as you gain more horsepower.  The way that they do this is by utilizing cold air.  You see, it is pure physics.  Air has oxygen molecules.  Those oxygen molecules are what the engine needs for performance.  Now, take your basic intake system.  It utilizes the air around it and gets it to the engine, right?  Ok.  Now think about molecular density.  You know that with hot air, things expand and with cold air things contract.  It’s the same basic principle with the molecules and the air that they are in.  In hot air, the molecules have more room to run around in while in cold air they are more densely packed.
