How to Replace Your Jeep Air Filter

The air filter in your rig cleans all of the air that gets in to your engine.  This filter needs to be changed either every 20,000 miles or once a year.  That is, unless you have an Airaid filter.  If you have one of the premium Airaid filters then you will just need to wash it and then put it back in.  If you happen to drive in conditions that are sandy or dusty then you will need to do this on a more frequent basis.  Dirty air filters can cause you to lose up to 3 mpg depending on how you drive.  This means that by keeping the air filter in your Jeep clean, you can save up to 100 gallons of fuel each year!

Changing or cleaning your air filter can also cause there to be less of a strain on your engine.  They are easy to change too as there are essentially just three steps.  First you will need to open the casing for the air filter.  Then take out the old one and put the new one in.  Now close the casing and you are ready to roll!

Any part of your rig that takes in air or fluids from the outside environment needs to have a way to separate what will benefit your rig from what will not.  This is the whole reason for having fuel and air filters.  While these parts do require you to check and change them on a regular basis, they are one of the least expensive and easiest – as well as the most critical – maintenance type procedures that you can perform on your Jeep.  Changing the air filter in your Jeep on a regularly scheduled basis can significantly impact both the performance and the life of your engine.

Basic changing of a filter does not take very long at all – about 3 minutes.  It doesn’t cost a lot of money either.  This can send your Jeep down the trails renewed and refreshed.  Having an air filter that is clogged can cause our Jeep to exhibit poor performance as well as reducing the life of the engine.  Taking 5 minutes out of your day once a year can change all of that.

Now, in all honesty you can take your rig to your local oil change shop and they can change it for you.  Why pay them to do this though when it is so easy to do it yourself?  Even a 5 year old can do this!  When you get someone else to do this for you they can charge up to $30!  That’s ridiculous!

Anyway, the next time you change your filter, replace your old one with an Airaid filter and you will no longer even need to spend money on new filters once a year.  Just wash that one and reuse it.
